Cheers everyone. I am so excited about coming to Hogwarts. My family gave me a hard time about the houses. My family has been split amongst two houses--Ravenclaw and Gryffindor so they were all telling how much better their houses were. Well, I have been sorted into Gryffindor House. I am happy and hope the Quidditch team has some openings this year.
A little bit about myself: I come from a family of healers--my dad is a healer in the Ministry's northern jurisdiction. My mom, though a witch, had a muggle father and is an Anatomy Professor at the Muggle University of St. Andrew's. It is a very old town with more magical folk than muggles but that would not be apparent to those not looking!
Mom and Dad's differing careers make for some interesting discussions at dinners. I have had muggle and magical treatments for ailments over the years and although the magical cures are sometimes much quicker they can be much more extreme as well. My uncle is the Chief healer at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries in London. He has seen everything through those hospital doors-believe me when I say that some of it can be very nasty indeed.
My witch talents were a little late to bloom but that is a bit typical in my family. My cousins in Greece were nearly 17 before they knew all that they could do. Once my powers showed up though there has been no turning back.
Last week, I went with my parents to get my academic robes and other school supplies. Wand shopping was the best. I set all sorts of things on fire and then I found one with the right balance. Mine is birch with a Dragon Heartstring core. Using your wand is much harder than it looks. I hope I don't hurt anyone with it! More later. I cannot wait to get to know my house mates and the other first years. It is weird to be away from home for school but lots of the kids are kids of my parents' friends so we are kind of familiar anyway. Time for dinner so I better go. I still get really lost in this place. More later, Calliope
